Education & Outreach
Fretworks

La Jolla Music Society places education and outreach at the core of its mission. It seeks to inspire and motivate music students of all ages throughout our county.

The Society’s comprehensive education and outreach programs touch thousands through pre-concert talks, guided open rehearsals, and free community concerts in schools, museums, community centers, and corporate offices, and other activities. Bright young artists from the community take the stage for short “Preludes to the Afternoon” preceding every Discovery Series concert at the Neurosciences Institute. Through our master classes, visiting artists participate in week-long residencies with universities, high schools, and conservatories to train young San Diego performers.

The Society builds community audiences for dance and music beyond the scope of patrons able to purchase Community Music Centersfull-price tickets by offering large numbers of free and discounted tickets to community members. Discounted tickets are regularly offered to members of the educational community, military families, and working professionals in the arts. Free tickets are made available to schoolchildren and their teachers within the framework agreements with specific schools as part of broader collaborative programs.
