LA JOLLA MUSIC SOCIETY RECEIVES A RECORD GIFT OF $1 MILLION
FROM THE REVELLE FAMILY, LONGTIME SUPPORTER
OF LA JOLLA MUSIC SOCIETY
SAN DIEGO, CA -La Jolla Music Society has been honored with a record gift of $1 million from the Revelle Family, the largest donation the organization has received to date.
This record-breaking gift to La Jolla Music Society marks the second time that the Revelle family has demonstrated its support for the consistently high quality of the Society’s programs. As a result of its earlier gift, the annual chamber music concerts have been named the Revelle Chamber Music Series. Now, in recognition of their most recent donation, the Society will dedicate its entire ’06-‘07 season---including concerts in San Diego, La Jolla, Carlsbad and North Park---to the Revelle Family.
“We are deeply inspired by this most generous gift,” stated Christopher Beach, President and Artistic Director of La Jolla Music Society. “This remarkable act of generosity will enable La Jolla Music Society to continue to bring world-class musicians to San Diego while expanding the depth of our programming. This gift represents approximately ten percent of La Jolla Music Society’s annual operating budget over the next three years, and, combined with the continued support of our many patrons, will help secure our future as a leading presenter of the performing arts in San Diego.”
A founding board member of the Society's predecessor, Musical Arts Society of La Jolla, and Honorary Board Director of La Jolla Music Society, Ellen Revelle’s continued leadership and warm support have been critical to the organization’s growth.
Mrs. Revelle’s husband, Roger Revelle, was not only an eminent scientist but, along with his wife Ellen, actively championed the cultural life of San Diego. Ellen has committed herself to carrying out the philanthropic goals that were so important to them both.
